Moon & Mask
Swap by moonlight. Lie by dawn.
One night, one talk, one vote. At night everyone acts at once on their phone, and some cards quietly change hands. You win by the card you hold at dawn, not the one you were dealt.
- Players
- 3–10
- Length
- 10–15 min
1 · Everyone
Everyone gets a role. Three more lie in the middle.
Hold your phone to see the role you start with and what it does tonight.
2 · Everyone
At night, everyone picks at once.
Every phone shows the same grid. Players with no power pick too, as cover, so nobody can tell who did what.
Seer
Done. Waiting for dawn.
Villager
Done. Waiting for dawn.
3 · Robber · Swapper
Some cards quietly change hands.
The Robber swaps with a player and sees the new card. The Swapper trades two other players' cards. Nobody is told.
4 · Everyone
Dawn. Your card may have changed.
⚠ The final role decides who wins
Your phone shows the role you started with and what you learned, never the role you hold now (unless you're the Insomniac).
5 · Everyone
Talk it out, then one vote.
It takes at least two votes to be executed. A tie at the top executes everyone tied.
6 · Everyone
Who wins depends on the final cards.
More than one side can win, and sometimes nobody does.
Roles
Who does what at night.
The deck is fixed by the player count: cards for everyone, plus three in the centre.
- WolvesWolf ×2
Wolves see each other. A lone Wolf peeks at one centre card.
- WolvesMinion
Sees the Wolves. Wins with them, even if executed.
- VillageSeer
Looks at one player's card, or two centre cards.
- VillageRobber
Swaps with a player, then sees the card taken.
- VillageSwapper
Swaps two other players' cards without looking.
- VillageInsomniac
Wakes last and sees their own card.
- VillageVillager
No power. Picks a target anyway, as cover.
- TannerTanner
Wins alone by getting executed.
Phones and TV
On your phone
- Your starting role and what you learned, only while you hold it
- The same night grid as everyone else
- Your one vote
On the TV (optional)
- The night order and the talk timer
- How many have voted, then who voted for whom
- The replay of what really happened in the night
No TV? Every phone plays the replay.
Moon & Mask at a glance
How many players does Moon & Mask need?
3 to 10. There are always three more cards than players; the extra three lie in the centre where only some roles can look.
How long does a game take?
10 to 15 minutes: one night, one talk and one vote. The host can time the talk at 3, 4, 5 or 7 minutes, or leave it open.
Does anyone have to close their eyes?
No. Everyone acts at the same time on their own phone, and every phone looks the same, so nobody needs to call roles one by one.
How do you win?
By the card you hold at dawn. The village wins if a Wolf is executed; the Wolves win if none is; the Tanner wins alone by being executed.
